A course to help you develop 3-D visualisation and map interpretation skills
by Lawrence Kanyan (GATE AIR-1)
We are launching the online version of the campus taught ‘Geological Structures and Maps’ course. It has been designed to help undergraduate and graduate Earth Science students who wish to improve their map reading skills. This course is taught using real-world 3-D examples from google earth.
Who is teaching the course?
The course is taught by Lawrence Kanyan. Lawrence is ex –Shell and ex-ONGC geologist who has extensive experience in structural and petroleum geology. Lawrence has also worked at the University of Texas at Austin as a Research Assistant. Having carried out field work in the Himalayas (India), Jaisalmer (India), Pyrenees (Spain) and Carboneras Basin (Spain), he has extensive experience to help geology students.
Lawrence is a prodigy who has excelled in IIT JEE, medical, GRE and GMAT examinations. His 780 score in GMAT (99.97 percentile) is way above the averages of top MBA colleges such as Harvard and Stanford. Lawrence was ranked 1st in India in the 2017 Geology and Geophysics GATE examination. He has also published high quality research in the field geology and petrophysics. He also has experience in the fields of machine learning and data science and has developed workflows to automate geological facies identification using CT-scan images and core photographs. He is the first to provided a comprehensive model for the development of the tilted Oil Water Contact observed in the carbonate reservoirs of the Mumbai High oil field.
Who should attend this course?
Do you find yourself overwhelmed by numerous map based exercises for which correct solutions are not available or very hard to find? Do you find it hard to visualise geological structure in 3-D? Do you find yourself wondering what do those contour lines, and traces of bedding, faults and folds drawn on paper actually look like in the real world. If you find yourself struggling with these issues, this course is for you.
What are the special features of this course?
- Concepts explained using 3-D google earth visuals to provide
- Video solutions for all map based exercises
- Video solutions to questions that have been asked in the previous year’s examinations
- Numerical problems from structural geology
- .kmz files will be shared with the students so that they can themselves experiment with the geological features on google earth
- Earn a certificate of completion to showcase your skills
What is the course fee?
We are offering this course at a nominal fee of INR 1999.00 (approx. $27.00). If you purchase this course along with the remote sensing course, you get both for INR 3500.00 (approx. $47).
